Troubleshooting

Fix common NotiZen setup issues with Notion access, widget refreshes, Google Calendar, Pro, and Backup & Restore.

Common issues

Widget is empty

Symptom: The widget appears on the home screen, but it does not show Notion rows.

Likely cause: The database may not be shared with NotiZen, the Custom View filters may hide every row, or the selected source may not be configured anymore.

What to do

  • Open NotiZen and confirm the widget source or Custom View.
  • Check filters and page limit in the Custom View or header settings.
  • Open Notion and share the page or database with the NotiZen integration.
  • Refresh or re-save the widget setup.

No databases appear after connecting Notion

Symptom: Notion authorization finishes, but the database picker is empty.

Likely cause: The connection exists, but no usable databases are shared with the integration.

What to do

  • Open the database in Notion.
  • Use Notion's Share menu to share it with NotiZen.
  • If the database is inside a private page, share the relevant parent page or the database itself.
  • Return to NotiZen and retry the picker.

Notion says connected but the widget shows no items

Symptom: The app shows a Notion workspace, but the widget remains blank.

Likely cause: The connected workspace may not contain the selected shared database, or the view filters may no longer match the database rows.

What to do

  • Confirm you are using the correct Notion workspace.
  • Open the widget settings and reselect the database or Custom View.
  • Temporarily simplify filters to check whether rows appear.
  • Reconnect Notion if you changed accounts or removed access in Notion.

The app asks me to reconnect Notion

Symptom: NotiZen asks for Notion authorization again or reports that authorization needs attention.

Likely cause: The saved Notion session may need refresh, the account may have changed, or access may have been revoked.

What to do

  • Use the reconnect action in NotiZen.
  • Complete the Notion authorization flow again.
  • After reconnecting, confirm the needed pages and databases are still shared.

I changed something in Notion but the widget did not update yet

Symptom: A Notion row, property, or database setting changed, but the home screen still shows the old state.

Likely cause: Android widgets refresh on a schedule and NotiZen may still be showing cached widget data.

What to do

  • Open NotiZen and refresh or re-save the widget.
  • Wait a moment if Android is delaying widget updates.
  • If you changed database schema or shared access, reopen widget settings and save again.

The widget is not updating after installing a new app version

Symptom: Google Play installed a new version, but the widget still looks like the old version.

Likely cause: Android may keep an old widget process or RemoteViews state until the app refreshes the widget.

What to do

  • Open NotiZen once after updating.
  • Use the update banner restart/apply action if the app says an update was downloaded.
  • Refresh or re-save the widget setup.
  • If needed, remove and add the widget again.

Google Calendar events do not appear

Symptom: Upcoming Events is enabled, but no calendar items appear in the widget.

Likely cause: Google Calendar may not be connected, no calendars may be selected, the selected range may contain no events, or events could not load.

What to do

  • Open widget settings and confirm Google Calendar is connected.
  • Select calendars or enable the option to mirror the Google Calendar app selection.
  • Check the range: Today, Today and tomorrow, 3 days, or 1 week.
  • Enable all-day events if the missing events are all-day events.
  • Refresh the widget after changing calendar settings.

No calendars selected

Symptom: Upcoming Events is enabled, but the widget has no calendar source.

Likely cause: The widget stores selected Google Calendar IDs per widget, and the current widget may not have any selected.

What to do

  • Open widget settings.
  • Select one or more calendars for Upcoming Events.
  • Use mirror calendar selection if you want NotiZen to follow visible calendars from Google Calendar.
  • Save the widget settings.

Pro is active but a feature still appears locked

Symptom: You subscribed through Google Play, but a Pro feature such as multiple widgets, additional Custom Views, supported property editing, advanced filters, custom sorting, header metrics, advanced visibility controls or Backup & Restore still looks locked.

Likely cause: The app may still be loading Google Play Billing status, the purchase may be pending, or the device may be using a different Google Play account.

What to do

  • Wait a moment and reopen NotiZen.
  • Use Restore purchases in the Pro card if it is available.
  • Check that Google Play is using the same account that purchased Pro.
  • Check the subscription status in Google Play.
  • Contact support if Pro still does not unlock.

I cannot open a Notion page from the widget

Symptom: Tapping a widget row does not open the expected Notion page.

Likely cause: The page may have moved, may not be shared with the connected Notion account, or Android may not have an app/browser that can open the link.

What to do

  • Open the same page in Notion with the account connected to NotiZen.
  • Confirm the page or database is still shared with NotiZen.
  • Check that Notion or a browser can open Notion links on the device.

Backup import failed

Symptom: NotiZen rejects a backup file or shows an import error.

Likely cause: The JSON may be invalid, from an unsupported schema, from a different app package, or missing widget profiles.

What to do

  • Import the original JSON exported by NotiZen.
  • Avoid editing the backup file manually.
  • Export a fresh backup from the current version if possible.
  • Contact support with the error message, but do not paste secrets or private Notion content.

My restored widget setup does not appear immediately

Symptom: A backup profile was restored, but the home screen widget does not show the restored setup yet.

Likely cause: Android may not have refreshed the widget, or a new widget restore may still be pending.

What to do

  • Open NotiZen and check restored setups.
  • If restoring to an existing widget, refresh the widget.
  • If restoring to a new widget, complete the Android widget pin/add flow.
  • Review widget settings after restore and save once.
